Works by Juan Daniel Estrada often express the tri-unity of human existence body, soul, and spirit. His frequent use of a side profile allows for the portrayal of a fuller picture of this tri-unity interpretation of reality. Elements in the various paintings can include symbols of cells, molecules, and important organs such as the heart and lungs. Often these bodily elements are portrayed in mixed media against a backdrop of rich hues of reds and browns with additions of pencil scribbles and oil pastel scrawls to represent the various molecular and cellular bodily components. According to the artist, elements of the soul are an important component of the interpretation of reality and can include thoughts, ideas, personality traits, cultural tendencies, and habits of the mind and heart and are influenced by our upbringing, interests, culture, and education. Swirls, circles, and other designs are added on or near the heads of each portrait to represent the unique aspects of the soul, culture, mind, and heart of each portrait represented. Elements sometimes include linear circles near the eye to represent specks of light emanating from the mind and thin lines to represent audible vibrations from the mouth. Works also explore elements of spirituality. His paintings often aim to depict the complexity and elegant design of human existence. Influenced by Intelligent Design and Creation, works are based upon the artist’s belief in the essential and basic role of spiritual influences on overall wholeness and well-being. According to the artist, the main purpose of these works is to share the importance of having a balanced life, considering these three elements of human existence.
